Award winning photographer Michael Parrott comes
from an artistic family background of painters and master carvers and while he graduated
from Canterbury with a B.Com. and became a qualified Chartered Accountant, he never lost
the artistic flair he developed at school. Instead he used his qualifications to travel
and to practice his self-taught photographic skills whilst living in London for six years.
He shot his first wedding shortly after leaving University and worked briefly for a local
modelling agency before the big O.E. beckoned. Overseas travel enabled him to practice his
photojournalism and landscapes, while his love of sport took him to such places as
Wembley, Wimbledon and Silverstone.
Upon his return to New Zealand, still with a full-time finance job, Michael took up the
invitation to work for one of Wellingtons largest wedding and portrait studios
before leaving to work with Brian Seach in 2000.
Michael did his first solo exhibition in July 2001 at the New Zealand Centre for
Photography, a series of black & white environmental portraits of Wellingtons
café baristas. He is photographer for the productions of Toi Whakaari, New Zealand Drama
School and The New Zealand School of Dance, both based in Wellington at Te Whaea, National
Dance and Drama Centre. His passion is in taking people photographs and he is always
looking for his next challenge in the art of photography.
Michael is based in Khandallah, Wellington. |
